What inspires you to compete?
I have always been competitive. I have an older brother and I always wanted to be better than him at sports. It is a great feeling to surf in contests, (especially when the waves are good). I like to go for big moves with a crowd watching. The pressure from the other competitors always makes me surf better.
Why do you like this sport?
It is very different than other sports I did growing up. There are so many variables. I like to try new things when I surf, go for moves on parts of the wave that I haven't tried before. I like that you can really push your limits.
Describe your style...
Funkadelic power mixed in with a laidback glide!
Do you train? What does your schedule look like?
I surf, then surf somewhere else, then eat, then surf again, then if I don't have anything going on, Ill watch surf videos, then eat, then tell my wife all about my day surfing, then dream about surfing.
Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?
Went to a reef break in La Jolla, nobody in the water, nobody on the beach, nobody around and perfect, light green, head high barrells for about an hour all by myself. Then 20 bodyboarders, 20 shortboarders, and 5 photogs showed up.
