Synopsis: San Clemente’s been pumping out talent since the birth of the surfboard, and from the looks of Riley Metcalf, the city has no intention of stopping anytime soon. With a house that’s walking distance from Lowers, Riley’s proven himself to be one of the top groms in Southern California.
Variables: Riley’s an adept surfer with a strong head on his shoulders. When he’s not dismantling Lowers on his forehand, he’s either hitting the books—or listening to death metal—and keeping up a three-point-plus GPA.
Forecast: For Riley to make the transition from an A-list grom to a full-time pro, he’ll need to continue to have a good showing in the NSSA, coupled with some solid photo trips to keep him in the mags.
