Synopsis: Adam Wickwire had a tough year. After winning the U.S. Pro Junior tour in 2007, he began 2008 on a travel program that lasted several months. Then a severe knee injury sidelined him for the majority of the Junior season, a setback that caused him to drop to 23rd overall on the domestic tour.
Variables: As of February 2009, Adam was still without a main sponsor after his deal expired with Rip Curl at year’s end.
Forecast: Now back in the water, Adam is fit—training for triathlons and a jujitsu program have seen to that. But with a sagging global economy, he’s going to have a tough time finding a sponsor to buoy his diminished profile. He needs to create opportunities, now, if he’s going to stick around.
