“I love Pipeline because it’s a nice left,” says Wiggolly Dantes, “and Teahupoo, I like it because it’s dangerous.” Breaking down the stereotype of Brazilians simply being small wave warriors, Wiggolly, who incidentally has the best name in the Hot 100, may be cut from a slightly different cloth than his other countrymen. Born and raised in Sao Paulo, the 2005 King of the Groms is currently residing in Itamambuca Beach, and quietly going about putting his plan into action. “My aim is to be on the WCT, it’s my dream,” he says. “When there’s no waves I do boxing training and practice jujitsu. I also watch surfing movies to get ideas and inspiration.” Along with Adriano De Souza and Pablo Paulino, Wiggolly’s a key player in Brazil’s next generation.
