Bio

For most of us, high school is an awkward time; a time when gangliness, pimples, and self-consciousness dictates life as we know it. But there are always those that seem to dodge Mother Nature’s cruel joke, and Trevor Saunders is one such individual. The 2007 California High School Men’s champ, Saunders ranks highly amongst an ultra-innovative crop of aspiring, young Southern California talent. The goofyfooter who’s emerging from the hallowed shadow of San Clemente’s T Street does not only boast the requisite arsenal of postmodern maneuvers, but like predecessors such as Dino Andino and Matt Archbold, there’s an undeniable element of power in his approach, which will most definitely serve him well going into the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in Portugal. As far as Saunders’ recent state title goes, it was the first big win of his budding career, and a win that will hopefully propel him to success in Portugal and a bright professional career after that. “Trevor was amazing,” remarked San Clemente Coach John Dowell, after the State Championships. “He had a great run from start to finish. He didn’t skip a beat and went number one all the way through. He came in here completely focused and got what he wanted.”  Like other recent San Clemente High grads, most notably the brothers Gudauskas, after school Saunders will be hitting the contest circuit full-time, and if his multitude of talents and drive to succeed serve him as well as they already have, you’ll be hearing his name for some time to come.
