Born in Brazil, the Jabour clan migrated to Hawaii when Kiron was just a baby, and given his development as a surfer, it seems to have been a smart move. This past winner Kiron proved he is well on his way to becoming a North Shore staple after winning a pro junior contest in flawless eight- to 10-foot Sunset. More than just a trophy on the mantel, the win at Sunset is telling in several ways. First, Kiron had to get through John John Florence, Mason Ho, Torrey Meister and Granger Larson. And second, and maybe more importantly, it demonstrated that Kiron’s more than just a kid capable of flying above the lip and throwing tail. He’s also shown he’s comfortable in the heavy stuff, which if you’re going to live on the North Shore, is key.
