You’ve been a bit under the radar lately, what have you been up to?

I’m in Florida’s right now, watching golf, probably going to go play golf in a bit. Then it’s bowling night. So yeah, I’m retired in Florida with the rest of America. Actually I was just doing some traveling. Spent some time in Europe and then Morocco. It was good

Back to Florida and the East Coast. Do you think coming from the East Coast is an advantage or disadvantage?

I wouldn’t say it’s an disadvantage. It’s more of an advantage, I think. With all of the sponsors on the West Coast, you have a lot less pressure on you. Because you’re overshadowed by guys like Kelly and the Hobgoods you can kind of develop and do your own thing over here and people don’t make that big of a deal about it.

But doesn’t having a guy like Kelly or CJ or Cory kind of make it hard to break out?

If you want to make the scene you just have to put yourself in the scene. It’s like big waves. Everybody says that big waves are always a struggle for East Coasters, but that’s not really true. There are some guys here that charge as hard as anybody in Hawaii. You just have to go put yourself in those situations where things can happen and eventually they do. I’ve been going to the North Shore for years now, and that’s one of those things you have to do if you want to make it. I’m not saying I’m all big time or anything, but it’s like anything in life: You make your own opportunities.

So what are the opportunities you’re currently making for yourself?

Well, for now I’m just going to be traveling and hitting up some of the domestic contests, getting ready to make that next big step. But before that, it’s bowling night tonight and I’m going to go throw a few strikes.
